We always thrive for better computing performance and in the frequently changing technological world Intel has kept thrive by launching new products which enhance this experience. Recently Intel has launched new mobile processor which is been built for the laptops to enhance over all computing experience in terms of speed and power, Intel i5-450M which is said to be faster than i3 processors and more compatible with changing technology.

Some of the interesting features of the i5 processor include two cores and supports turbo boost technology which helps to increase the frequency for small period to meet the requirement of certain processes which demand or require more processing power. The second most exciting feature of the i5 processor is integrated memory control which allows the processor to communicate directly to the memory and does not have to indulge in any mediator chip to carry out the function.

It has to be understood that the i3 processors does not support Turbo Boost functionality and the turbo frequency of i5 processors is clocked at 2.8GHz. Thus this new processor has been incorporated by many Laptop Brands and Intel has taken great efforts to launch this processor against its all time rival AMD.

The essential for the i5-450M to work on any system include 4 threads and 2 cores as it is called dual core and both the cores are based on Nehalem micro architecture. The processor is clocked at 2.4 GHZ having smart cache of 3 MB and Bus/ Core ratio of 18. Also this processor has maximum Turbo frequency of 2.66 MHZ and Direct Medial Interface of 2.5 GT per second. The required instruction set is 64 Bit and the instruction set extensions are SSE4.1 and SSE 4.2 as well the CPU die is manufactured in 32 nm. But then also performance of i5 processor according to Intel is Mid-range and the i5-450 shares the same platform with i5-520M but it does not offer the AES function. The code name of the process is Arandale having Front Side Bus of 2500MHZ and Level 1 cache 128KB, Level 2 Cache 512 KB and Level 3 Cache of 3072 KB.

The memory specifications of 450m according to the Intel can be summarized as follows, the maximum memory size is dependent on memory type and is said to be 8 GB with two different types of memory of DDR3 800 and DDR3 1066 having 2 memory channels allocated maximum bandwidth of 17.1 GB per second. ECC memory is not supported by the processor 36 Bit of physical address extension is provided.

The Graphic options and features provided along with the Processor are simply awesome and help to execute the gaming and multimedia functions very smoothly. The process has Integrated Graphics which supports Intel GMA HD Graphics with Dynamic frequency. The graphic card is clocked with Base frequency of 500MHZ and maximum Dynamic frequency of 766 MHZ. This specification makes it more faster than the previous GMA 4500MHD but the GeForce 9400M (ION) will still be faster as NVIDIA and ATI cards get good driver support than Intel.

It is also said that the GMA core will also use the Turbo boost to enhance the Clock speed. Some of the other features include Flexible Display Interface and is capable of Dual display. All new Intel Clear Video Technology which supports HD technology is used which is actually combination of software’s and hardware’s required for video processing which increases the digital display capacity and is useful for the better audio and visual experience.

There are some of the expansion provided with the i5 processor although they are same as that of in i3 which includes 1 PCI express ports with revision rate of 2.0 and configuration of 1×16. Some of the package specifications which will come along with the all new i5 processor will have maximum CPU configuration of 1 which will have 105°C Junction and includes the package size of rPGA at 37.5mm×37.5mm and BGA at 34mm×28mm. The processing die size is 81mm² and is incorporated with 382 million die transistors whereas graphic and IMC Lithography of 45nm having graphic die size 144mm² which includes almost 177 million transistors. This processor is available in halogen free options and will support PGA988 socket.

There are some of the advanced technological features included in the processor which makes it powerful like Turbo Boost Technology, Hyper-threading technology, Virtualization technology (VT-x) to enhance the computing experience by allowing multiple functions in to a single server making maximum use of system which helps in reducing costs, increasing management efficiency, strengthening security and making computing more comfortable in terms of disaster. Intel enhanced SpeedStep technology which is designed to meet the very high performance in power conservation needs; it acts by switching voltage and frequency in high and low levels as per the processor requirement.
