This article illustrates about how to activate iPhone 3GS, 3G after Ultrasn0w 1.2 to fix battery drain
Introduction
This article gives you an introduction on what is battery drain and how does it occur. In addition, it provides step by step procedure to activate iPhone 3GS, 3G after Ultrasn0w 1.2 to fix battery drain.
What is Battery Drain?
Generally when you get a mobile device, you will check how long will the batteries last? If the battery gets consumed very soon for some reason or other, then it is battery drain. If battery drain occurs, then you have to charge your device very frequently.
About Unlock Procedure in Ultrasn0w 1.2
Many iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G Users had their iPhone locked and they were waiting for an unlock procedure. Quite some time back, the iPhone Dev Team has demonstrated the following unlock procedure:
Step 1: Update your iPhone 3GS / iPhone 3G baseband to iPad’s baseband 06.15.00 using Unlock Edition of PwnageTool version 4.1.3 or Beta 5 of Redsn0w 0.9.6.
Step 2: Unlock the iPhone using procedure provided in Ultrasn0w version 1.2.
By using the above steps, you can easily unlock your iPhone 3GS / iPhone 3G Device.
How does Battery Drain Occur Due to Ultrasn0w 1.2?
Though the above unlock procedure was very useful and advantageous, it also had few shortcomings. One among those shortcomings is the battery drain problem. The iOS version 4.1 and iOS version 4.2 are working in a different way when compared to the earlier versions of iOS operating system. When you browse through any application in your iPhone, the device checks for the availability of push certificates either via Wifi or via the cellular data plan of your iPhone. Checking of this push certificates overheats the device and in turn consumes more battery, thereby leading to battery drain.
How to Fix Battery Drain Issue?
iPhone Dev Team has proposed a permanent fix for this battery drain problem. The fix is a tweak available in cydia for free and it is named as SAM. SAM is the acronym of Subscriber Artificial Module. You can install this SAM and then you can activate your iPhone 3GS / iPhone 3G thereby you can get rid of battery drain problem. But in addition to this task, you should also perform lockdownd revert process, which is not an easy task for the beginners to do. Hence iPhone Dev Team has introduced Beta 6 of Redsn0w version 0.9.6. This version of Redsn0w provides extensive support for the SAM and in addition, it also deals with the lockdownd revert process so that you need not perform any task by yourself.
How to Activate iPhone 3GS, 3G after Ultrasn0w 1.2 to Fix Battery Drain?
If you have followed the unlock procedure of ultrasn0w 1.2 that is illustrated in the beginning of this article, then you can use the following steps to activate your iPhone 3GS/ iPhone 3G after this unlock:
- Install Subscriber Artificial Module (SAM)
- Download Beta 6 of Redsn0w version 0.9.6
- After successful download, run it.
- Click on the “Browse” button in the screen that appears. Then select the appropriate firmware of your iPhone – either iOS version 4.1 or iOS version 4.2.1.
- Wait for sometime until Redsn0w processes the appropriate IPSW and identifies the same. Then click on the “Next” Button.
- Now the Redsn0w will start preparing the jailbreak data as shown in the screenshot below:
- Click on “Next” Button. You will get a screen as shown below:
- As shown in the above screenshot, select the checkbox containing option “Deactivate” and then click on the “Next” button
- Now press the “Power” Button/ “Sleep” Button continuously for about three seconds.
- After three seconds, along with the “Power” Button/ “Sleep” Button press the “Home” Button for almost ten seconds.
- Now release the “Power” Button/ “Sleep” Button, but continue pressing the “Home” Button for fifteen more seconds.
- The above three steps will put your device into DFU Mode. Now Redsn0w will finish all its remaining process and it will reboot your iPhone.
- After your iPhone is rebooted, go to Settings and click on SAM. Then enable “De-activate iPhone”.
- After enabling it, activate your device using iTunes.
- After doing the above step if you get any message stating “Invalid SIM” then you have to make manual selection of carrier under methods other than “Automatic” and then click on an appropriate SMID.
Once when you are done with the above steps, you have successfully activated your iPhone 3GS/ iPhone 3G device. This tweak makes the iTunes believe that your device has legal activation tickets and therefore it doesn’t check for push certificates. When your device doesn’t check for push certificates, battery doesn’t get drained and the battery will last for a long time.
Note:
If you have activated your iPhone with official SIM rather than SAM and your phone already faces the battery drain issue then do not follow the activation steps mentioned above. It will not make any difference.
